Our capital markets practice covers the full range of capital markets products and incorporates specialists in debt and equity capital markets, derivatives and structured finance, securitisation, corporate trust and agency and high yield.

Few practices can match our award-winning, top tier position across the full range of capital market products. With such a deep bench of specialists and global reach, international and industry-leading ‘first-of-a-kind’ transactions are our hallmark. We have been instrumental in nearly all the major developments in the capital markets, starting with the first ever eurobond issue in the 1960s.

Integrated into our capital markets practice is a group of U.S. corporate finance lawyers who specialize in U.S. securities law advice, enabling us to advise on U.S. law aspects of transactions anywhere in the world. In addition, a number of our lawyers play leading roles in our cross-practice Islamic Finance group.

The past few years have been the most challenging in the history of international financial markets and have required fresh thinking as the markets adjust to the continually changing economic, political and regulatory conditions. Renowned for our intellectual rigor, our capital markets lawyers draw on deep product expertise and regularly work alongside our regulatory, banking and finance, litigation, restructuring and other specialist teams to develop innovative solutions for our clients, often incorporating precedent-setting financing techniques that lead the industry.

That is why over 800 corporate and financial institution participants in the financial markets entrust us with the full range of their domestic and cross-border transactions.

Over the past year we have worked with some of the world’s most sophisticated businesses on market-leading transactions that have changed their industries. This includes, advising on the largest oil refinery project in Vietnam (Nghi Son) and the joint venture between H.C. Starck and Vietnam’s largest private sector company, Masan Group; the ground-breaking creation of Abu Dhabi’s first Financial Free Zone, the Abu Dhabi Global Market; and representing Novartis in its successful patent battle with MedImmune over Novartis’s blockbuster drug Lucentis – to name just a few achievements.

We are able to build on the foundations of our long heritage to attract the most talented people and develop the high-performance culture necessary to innovate and change the face of business.

Our commitment to help our clients deliver their global strategies has seen us build a truly global network now spanning 44 offices in 30 countries. We have also developed strong ties with relationship law firms in more than 100 countries where we do not have a presence.

This network has allowed us to become one of the largest and most connected law firms in our peer group with a global reach and local depth that is simply unrivalled.

So when we talk about global coverage, we’re not just talking about having offices in some important cities around the world. We mean being able to combine our international resources and sector expertise to work on cross-border transactions directly in the markets and regions important to our clients.

The “excellent” Henri Wagner heads the banking and capital markets department. His practice ranges from mainstream products to complex securitisation vehicles and derivative transactions.
