Arturo Gerbaud joined Alemán, Cordero, Galindo & Lee as an associate in 1990 and became a partner in 1992. He is now Managing Partner of the firm and heads the banking & finance and capital markets groups.

Mr Gerbaud’s professional practice concentrates in banking and finance, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets, in all of which he has extensive experience.

Mr Gerbaud has represented many of the leading local and international financial institutions, including Citibank, NA, the Bank of Nova Scotia, HSBC, Banco General SA, BBVA, Banco Santander Central Hispano, among others, and has been involved in many of Panama’s largest and most complex financial transactions.

Mr Gerbaud served in a high-level presidential commission for the modernisation of the capital markets and in the drafting of Panama’s securities law.

Currently, Mr Gerbaud serves as a member of the board of directors for several groups, including Panama’s Superintendence of Banks; Central Latinoamericana de Valores, SA (Latin American Clearing and Settlement, Inc), where he is also secretary; and Latinex Holdings, Inc.

Mr Gerbaud has been recognised by Chambers Latin America, The Legal 500: Latin America and IFLR1000 as a leading lawyer in Panama in the fields of banking and finance, capital markets and corporate/M&A.

Mr Gerbaud has an LLM degree from the Duke University School of Law, and a bachelor of law and political sciences degree from Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua.

He is a member of the National Bar Association of Panama. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
